AP Spanish Literature and Culture 2015_2016.pdf
AP Spanish Literature and Culture is designed to introduce students to the formal study of Peninsular Spanish, Latin American, and U.S. Hispanic literature. The course aims to develop students’ critical reading and analytical writing skills in Spanish as well as their ability to make interdisciplinary connections and explore linguistic and cultural comparisons.
This class will be conducted entirely in Spanish appropriate to this level and covers the entire official AP Spanish Literature and Culture reading list.Literary texts are grouped by themes and presented in chronological order within each theme. Students are expected to discuss literary texts and their different historical, socio-cultural and geopolitical contexts in a variety of interactive oral and written formats in Spanish. Additionally, students will analyze themes and features of artistic representations, audiovisual materials and audio sources in Spanish related to course content.
This course seeks to introduce the student to the literature of the Spanish-speaking world and its critical analysis so that she can develop a sincere appreciation for its culture, history and traditions. It also aims to prepare the student for a successful completion of the AP Spanish Literature Examination. By adhering to the AP Central’s required reading list, and upon successful completion of the course the AP student will be able to:
Recognize and use literary terms in Spanish.
Understand and apply analytical processes of the reading of Spanish literature.
Identify and understand the different themes throughout the Spanish language literature cannon.
Compose high-caliber analytical essays on Spanish language prose, poetry and drama.
Understand the similarities and differences between the different literary movements, trends and genres in peninsular and Latin-American literature.
Critically analyze the form and content of Spanish language prose, poetry and drama f
rom different periods with a consideration of their cultural, social, historical and philosophical context.
Make thematic connections between texts of various genres and historical periods.
Make interdisciplinary connections to the literature of the Spanish-speaking world through art, music, film, history and other academic disciplines
